Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party for blatantly manipulating the Chandigarh Mayoral elections held today. In a strongly worded statement, the PPCC President said, “The blatant manipulation and fraud that took place today in the name of Chandigarh Mayoral elections has once again made it clear that the Bharatiya Janata Party is hell bent on murdering our democracy. In a desperate attempt to salvage the party from enduring a huge defeat in Chandigarh, the presiding officer working on the behest of the BJP manipulated the votes in broad daylight.”
Warring further said, “Whatever happened today in Chandigarh just goes on to show how the BJP is ready to use any means to simply win an election. The party isn’t concerned with following any democratic or electoral process and just wants to enforce dictatorship in the entire country. They are very comfortable with using muscle power, agencies, money, pressure tactics, using the officers and what not, just to achieve their goal of maintaining power.”
He further said, “Today’s shameful incident isn’t just concerning for the political class, instead it should be concerning for every parent, for every student, for every citizen of this democratic country. We need to ask ourselves that do we want such a future for our kids? Do we want a dictatorship? If the answer is no then it’s the time to fight back now against the very powers that are our to destroy our freedom and our democracy. It is time that we show the BJP that our country is built on democratic values and we won’t tolerate anyone that tries to stifle our democracy and our constitution. Let us all fight against this hatred filled politics before it’s too late.”
The Punjab Congress President said, “The BJP is clearly trying to break our backs, it is trying to muffle our voices, so that we won’t speak up against injustice. But that will never happen. Congress was at the forefront for our country’s freedom movement and fought against the Britishers, and now once again Congress will ensure that the people who are trying to murder our democracy will never succeed.”
