Singh, posted in the Sikh Regiment Bathinda, connected with Harmandeep Kaur, a resident of Handaya village in Barnala district, on social media. Kaur falsely claimed to be unmarried and residing in Malaysia. Their online friendship blossomed into a love relationship, during which Singh purchased numerous household items as gifts for Kaur.In January 2021, during Singh’s leave, Harmandeep Kaur, under the pretext of meeting him, introduced a woman named Gurdev Kaur as his mother. She also introduced Sonia as his cousin sister, Taranjit Singh as his brother, and Sandeep Kaur as his friend. Assurances were given that Harmandeep was still unmarried. Falling prey to their deceit, Singh married Harmandeep Kaur in February 2021 at a Gurudwara near Chungi No. 8 in Firozpur. Subsequently, he discovered that Harmandeep Kaur was part of a group that duped innocent individuals through fraudulent marriages. Harmandeep had previously orchestrated similar marriages with other victims.
