Markfed’s model fair price shops set to alleviate ration woes in Jalandhar villages

Deputy Commissioner Special Sarangal has taken stock of the progress of the work to open model fair price shops (ration shops) in those villages of Jalandhar district where there are no ration depots. He said that under the first phase, such fair price shops would be opened at 38 locations in the district. These shops will be operated by Markfed, where beneficiaries of smart cards (wheat-pulse cards) can not only avail the supply of ration but also purchase Markfed products.
Sarangal stated that the work of model fair price shops has already been completed at 21 locations, including C.M.S. Guraya, C.M.S. Nakodar, and villages Chomu, Jandiara, Sarhali, Dhandawar, Brahmpur, Dayalpur, Hazara, Raipur Rasoolpur, Mandiala, Mahisampur, Haripur, Umrao Billa, Khokhewal, Sanghe Khalsa, Mao Sahib, Moron, Tehang, Kili, and Sindad. He said that these shops would be operated in the cooperative societies functioning in these villages.
The Deputy Commissioner, directing officials to expedite the ongoing work at other locations, instructed them to ensure the completion of this work on a priority basis by December 31, 2023. This would enable eligible beneficiaries to avail themselves of this facility. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Varinderpal Singh Bajwa, SDM Rishabh Bansal, Gursimran Singh, Balbir Raj Singh, Amanpal Singh, and Major Dr. Irwin Kaur, DM Markfed Indrajit Singh, Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies Gurvinderjit Singh, among others, were present on this occasion.
